If you are using Free WordPress Themes downloaded from any WordPress Gallery and feeling that the footer links hurting your site badly. After attempting to edit the site you also faced special warning messages of Creative Common Rights in order to protect the listed code in footer.php, if you are smart blogger and carry useful information of html then you can easily decode your encrypted footer link which normally shows Weird code when you try to edit footer page.
How do they encrypt ?
The encryption is a back-end process to convert the programming parameters in a form of BASE 64 assigned characters, these characters actually hides the exact parameters to that weird codes which you usually see in footer page.
How to decode wordpress footer.php?
Now, coming to the point that how to lead the footer decoding process efficiently. First of all go to your login to your wordpress, after logging in guide your wordpress panel to Appearance, if you have chosen the same theme then straight away go to Editor and browse footer.php from left of your themes sidebar. If your theme contains Base 64 codes then it will look like this
Isn’t that looking strange to edit or copy, certainly it also feared me for once when i tested the code. Do one thing just copy the special characters lying between ‘ — ‘ from a above example you should copy the characters from Pz4g and end on iDw/
After copying these characters open the Base 64 Decoder after opening the page you can see only one field, in that field simply paste the copied code to there and click Decode. On your click to decode it will show you real code in format of hidden links and text which actually is visible at your existing theme on site.
Without wasting any time copy the source code which generated in second field and come back again to wordpress footer.php from where you copied the code. Select All (Ctrl+A) and paste the generated source code there and hit the update button. Before clicking the update for your code testing enter any dummy link there so you can easily view updated link visibility when you set to preview for first time.
I hope that the process which i mentioned above work effective for you. If you have long Base 64 Code so don’t get harsh the code resource generator will allow you to save as a file, it will run as binary file but it is recommended to open in notepad so you can easily copy your generated source code. This tutorial is not to hit any designing concerns because footer links are the the property of respective producer of the theme so it it is highly recommended that don’t use this method by decoding themes for any theme promotion campaign which may belongs to you.

hi, thank to sharing.. this info very usefull….
I just wanted to add something to this… If you want to remove footer links because they are spammy (like irrelevant links to unrelated products) then that makes sense. But as someone who designs themes, please realize that in exchange for the **free** design, it is common courtesy to leave credit (ie footer) to the designer. I have found a way to remove them that I have not seen any where and it requires no special decryption either. I won’t share it though because I don’t want the whole world wide web removing footers for no good reason. In my case, I had gotten a very popular theme (cutline) but it has several … SEVERAL unrelated (maybe even dynamic) links at the footer. This is stealing link juice and decreasing relevancy of your website (for seo purposes) and that is why I wanted to remove the footer. On link to the author’s website would have been reasonable but the links they put on my site were stuff like cell phone products, entertainment products, etc… nothing having to do with credit to the author.
Anyway, you might want to think about that though before trying to remove the footer_ they give you something free that you obviously liked because you downloaded it. So, why not leave the footer there unless they are spamming your website with their encrypted footer
I cannot find editor in my appearance tab. why is this so? am i using an outdated version of word press?
